• Foundational Trainers are patient, committed individuals who are both community-driven and intrinsically motivated to raise future assistance dogs. They play a vital role in shaping a puppy’s early development and teaching the essential skills needed for their future as service dogs. This role requires persistence, a passion for learning and dedication to continuous education to ensure each puppy builds a strong foundation for their future work. If you’re motivated by both personal growth and making a lasting impact in your community, becoming an IAAD Foundational Trainer could be a great fit for you!

    Our Foundation Trainers should meet the following criteria:

    • At least 2 years of puppy/dog experience

    • Be able to commit up to 16 months of their time and their home to an IAAD puppy

    • Be able to bring the puppy into their place of employment or school

    • Be able to commit to have the puppy with them throughout the days

    • Be able to commit to attending puppy classes with other foundational training teams and a puppy trainer at least weekly.

    • Maintain living conditions that are ideal for a puppy to flourish (indoor space, yard space), having the puppy in their home

    • Adhere to the puppy training program provided by IAAD

  • Temporary Foundation Trainers are individuals that are part of the puppy training team, providing temporary support to the Foundation Trainers and continuity for the Puppy’s fundamental training program. These roles are temporary based on requirement and can be flexible based on the Volunteers availability and the foundational training needs.

    Our Temporary Foundation Trainers should meet the following criteria:

    • At least 2 years of puppy/dog experience

    • Be able to bring the puppy into their place of employment or school

    • Be able to commit to have the puppy with them throughout the days

    • Be able to commit to attending puppy classes at least weekly to ensure continuity of care as applicable

    • Maintain living conditions that are ideal for a puppy to flourish (indoor space, yard space), having the puppy in their home

    • Adhere to the puppy training program provided by IAAD

  • If you have a passion for fundraising and would like to commit your time to building a fundraising program with IAAD, please reach out and join our Fundraising Committee. 

    The Fundraising Committee is committed to building a program that helps launch IAAD’s financial goals annually. It is built on mutual support creativity, helping to plan, build and execute the program throughout the year.

How to Volunteer

  • Volunteer roles are cyclical based on the programming throughout the year. If you’d like to be notified of additional roles as they come, please inquire and we’ll get in touch.

  • Volunteers are mentored through IAAD by teams that have experience in various roles within the program. Each position is successfully accomplished with IAAD community direction and support. Criteria is catered to the position and parameters can be met over time through mentoring. Those interested in volunteering will be contacted for further discussion when positions are available/planned to be filled.
