Re-Career First Responders Adoption Program
As puppies train in the program, their obedience grows exponentially, as the access they have to new environments and experiences starts at a young age. They become clear on the rules of engagement and have tools on board to help them navigate the expectations of their handlers.
Because of their training, regardless of whether they successfully making it through an assistance dog program, they are extremely valuable to the individual they end up with.
IAAD has five streams that an assistance dog in training could go into:
Assistance Dog (Mobility, Diabetic Alert, Hearing Alert, Facility Support)
Enforcement Detection (CBSA, and other detection service agencies)
Volunteer Release
First Responders Adoption
Public Adoption
The First Responders program allows IAAD the opportunity to continue to give back to the community through partnering pups that choose not to continue in the assistance dog program with first responders who would benefit from a well trained companion.
We’re excited to be able to work with the Calgary Police Department and the Calgary Fire Department when we have a puppy moving out of the program, as we’re certain they will be the best addition to enrich the lives of our First Responders.
